Local SEO so people nearby ring you first

Someone searches for a dentist or a garage on their phone and Google shows a map with three businesses. We work on your profile, reviews and site so one of them is yours.

Someone searches “car repair birmingham” on Google Maps: the shop moves from out of sight to the top of the list, with more reviews and a better rating, and the phone rings with a new customer. Shop and data are examples.

You're round the corner and Google shows a firm across town

Each of these costs your listing ground, and each one can be put right.
  • You search for your service outside your own door and the map shows three rivals.
  • Your profile still has Christmas hours from last year, and someone turned up to a locked shutter.
  • Google lists you as “Builder” when what you actually do is kitchens and bathrooms.
  • You've got six reviews, none answered, and the salon opposite has eighty with replies.

What happens when your profile and your website agree

How we get there

We work on both at once. The profile, field by field, with manager access you give us while you stay the owner. The website, with a page for each service and each town you really cover, linked from the listing.

We can't promise a place on the map: Google decides it and your rivals move too. The profile and the site do depend on us, and you see every change with its before and after.

  • A listing people trust

The right category, current hours (holidays too), real photos and answered reviews. It's what people check before they tap “Call”.

Google Business Profile reviewed field by field

  • Calls from people a few minutes away

People searching the map are usually in a hurry and close by. If they find you and like what they see, they call that day.

  • Seen in every area you serve

If you drive to customers, Google and your customers see which towns you cover, each with details of its own.

How we work on your local SEO

We start with what your customer sees on the map and finish with what they find on your site.
  1. We search from your area

We run the searches for your services the way a neighbour would, on a phone, and note who shows up on the map and why.

  2. We line up your details

One way of writing your name, address and phone, and a list of every place online where they show up differently.

  3. We fix the profile and the site

A complete profile, a page per service and area, and call and text buttons within reach. Every change with its before and after on your tracking page.

  4. We make reviews easy to ask for

A link, a QR code and a ready-to-send text message for the end of each job. Asking is the part that depends on you; we make it two taps.

Questions about local SEO and Google Maps

What UK firms with a local patch ask us. Add yours to the audit form.

What does a local SEO service actually do?

It gets a business showing up on Google Maps and in searches for its area: a complete Business Profile in the right category, a page per service and town, the same details across UK directories and a steady flow of reviews. For you that means calls from people nearby.

How much is local SEO in the UK?

With us, a monthly fee quoted after the free audit, set by how many towns and services we cover, with the profile, the town pages and the review system included. The first invoice comes once it's live and you've checked it, with no set-up fee and no minimum term. The Business Profile itself is free; you pay for the work.

Should I be on Checkatrade or Yell as well as Google?

If customers in your trade use them, yes: they bring enquiries of their own and they're another place where Google checks your details. What matters is that name, address and phone match everywhere. In the audit we list the ones worth keeping for your trade.

Can I rank on Google Maps without a shop or office?

Yes, as a service-area business: you hide your address and list the towns you cover. Google ranks you by distance from your base, so we strengthen the pages and reviews for the rest of your area. A virtual office to appear somewhere else breaks Google's rules.

Who owns my Google Business Profile if you manage it?

You do. You add us as a manager and stay the owner throughout. If you stop working with us, you remove our access and everything stays as it is.

Can you get bad reviews taken down?

Only Google removes reviews, and only when they break its rules (spam, conflicts of interest, offensive content). We help you report those and write calm, useful replies to the rest, which future customers read too. We never buy or invent reviews.

Local SEO is the work that gets a business onto Google Maps and into searches for its area. Google ranks those results by relevance, distance and prominence, so we work on your Business Profile, your reviews, your details across UK directories and a website that backs the profile up.

More detail: Local SEO and Google Maps

The firm already on the map keeps winning the reviews

Google says more reviews and good ratings help local ranking (its guide to local results). The firm already on the map gets more views, more jobs and so more reviews. Each month your listing stays half-finished, those reviews go to someone else.

The good news: a wrong category or old hours can be fixed the day they're found. In the free audit we search for your services from your area and tell you what we'd change first.

Local SEO in the UK: Checkatrade, Yell and your service area

In UK local searches the map often shares the screen with directories: Checkatrade, Yell, TrustATrader, Bark, Thomson Local. Customers trust them and Google reads them, so your name, address and phone should be written exactly the same on each one you use, on your site and on your profile.

If you go to customers (a plumber, a mobile hairdresser, a window cleaner), Google asks you to hide your home address and list the areas you cover instead (its guidelines). Towns and districts work better than postcodes there, because that's how people search. Apple Business Connect and Bing Places get the same details, as iPhones use Apple Maps by default.

Why a rival down the road outranks you on the map

When a search has local intent (“near me”, your city's name or something people hire nearby), Google shows a map with three businesses above the regular results. That's the local pack, and Google has published the three things that decide who gets in (tips to improve your local ranking). Years in business isn't one of them, and Google says there's no way to pay for a better local ranking.

  • Relevance

How well your profile matches the search. Google asks for complete, accurate details: category, services, hours and description.

we work on it: it's the profile

  • Distance

How far you are from the person searching. That's why the map changes from one street to the next, and why a fake address makes no sense.

    can't be changed

  • Prominence

How well known you are: how many reviews you have and how good they are, how many sites mention or link to you and how strong your own site is.

we work on it: reviews, mentions and your site

Your Google Business Profile, set up field by field

Many people still call it Google My Business; today it's the Google Business Profile, and it's the listing people see on the map. We manage it with manager access you give us: ownership stays with you and you can remove us whenever you want. We don't delete profiles or create new ones without explaining why first.

Beyond filling it in, we watch what tends to slip by: edits to your details suggested by Google or by users, unanswered questions, photos uploaded by strangers and special hours for holidays. Two mistakes drag a listing down more than the rest: a generic category and two profiles for the same business splitting the reviews.

If you'd rather do it yourself first, how to rank higher on Google Maps walks you through the steps. And if you need to be on the map from day one while the profile gains strength, Google Maps ads get you there by paying per click.

A local SEO company for businesses anywhere in the UK

To do local SEO for Leicester or Aberdeen we don't need to be on your high street. You give us access to the profile, tell us how you work, and we search the way someone from your area would. What matters is knowing the real searches in your patch.

If you have several branches, each gets its own profile and its own page, linked to each other. And if you want to be named when people ask ChatGPT for your service in your town, those same profiles and pages are the starting point; see AI search optimisation.

What's included, point by point

  • The category you belong in

It's one of the things that matters most for the map, and few people revisit it after signing up. We choose it by also looking at the businesses that show up today.

primary and secondary Business Profile categories

  • A complete, up-to-date profile

Services with descriptions, regular and holiday hours, real photos, posts, and the “Website” button leading to the page for your area instead of the home page.

tagged link to count visits from Maps

  • Storefront or service area

If customers come to you, your address shows. If you go to them, Google asks you to hide it and list the areas you serve (its guidelines).

    storefront or service-area business

  • Citations and local links

Name, address and phone written the same way on your site, your profile and the directories you're already in, plus local sites that would mention you: your chamber of commerce, suppliers, sponsors.

NAP consistency, citations and local link building

  • A page per area, with its own content

For each town you really serve: when you go, how long it takes to get there, jobs done nearby. The exact list of areas goes in your proposal.

no cloned pages with the town name swapped

  • Your details in the format Google reads

Name, address, hours, area and services described in your site's code, so Google doesn't have to guess them.

    LocalBusiness structured data, validated

  • Reviews: how to ask and how to reply

A direct link, a QR code, a ready-to-send message and guidelines for answering good and bad reviews.

no incentives in exchange: Google's review policy forbids them

When local SEO pays off for a UK firm, and when it won't

Pays off if

  • You serve customers in a specific area, at your place or theirs.
  • You have a Google listing, but someone else shows up first on the map.
  • Your customers would leave a review if you asked.
  • You have several locations and want each to show up in its own area.

Not a fit if

  • You want bought or fake reviews. Google removes them and can penalise the listing.
  • You only sell online, nationwide, with no area you serve: website SEO fits better.
  • You want a virtual office to show up in another city. Google doesn't allow it and suspends listings for it.
