How to get your business mentioned on ChatGPT in the UK
What ChatGPT and Copilot read before naming a firm, the steps a UK business can take itself, what to ignore, and how to see if you're mentioned.
When your customers ask ChatGPT, Copilot or Google's AI Mode which firm to use, we work so yours comes up, with the right details, on a rolling monthly basis.
Several Manchester firms work with self-employed people: bookkeeping, Self Assessment and annual accounts, plus registering with HMRC.
Several Manchester firms work with self-employed people: bookkeeping, Self Assessment and annual accounts, plus registering with HMRC.
AI assistants answer from what they learned in training and from what they look up as you ask: your website, your Business Profile, reviews, Yell and the directories in your trade, and the articles that mention you. The first can't be changed. The second can, and that's where we work.
Lots of tools will report what AI says about you, and Google and Bing now give some of that away free. What you pay an agency for is the next part: changing what those answers find until they describe you correctly, and showing you each month what has moved.
Each service explained the way you'd tell a customer at the counter: what's included, what it costs, who it's for and where you work, in the first lines.
citable content: direct answers, sourced facts and buying questions
Your name, address, phone, hours and services match on your site, your Google profile, Bing and every directory you're listed in. When each source says something different, the AI doesn't know which to trust.
your brand recognised as one entity
Reviews, industry directories, best-of lists and local press that mention your business. That's what these tools read before they trust a name.
off-site mentions and reviews
Between 50 and 100 real buying questions for your trade and your area, run in ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Perplexity. We record who comes up, who gets cited and what's said about you.
Pages that answer in the first lines, prices and buying questions in plain view, your details in the format machines read, and the door open to the crawlers that help you.
Your Google Business Profile, Bing Places and the directories and review sites in your field, all with the same name and details. Plus the lists and local press where it makes sense to appear.
The same questions every week. Every month, a report on how often you come up, who cites you and in what tone, against your competitors, with the next steps.

Your SEO is handled by Òscar and Carles, the same two people who go through your site and listing in the audit. Who we are

1 · What we found
Asked for “an accountant for self assessment in Norwich”, ChatGPT lists three practices; your site never says you do Self Assessment.
2 · The plan, page by page
3 · Fixed quote
The pages that answer your customers' questions, your Business Profile and your details on other sites are put right first. The first monthly invoice comes once you've checked them. After that, each month: new questions answered on your site, your listings checked and a report on how often you're mentioned, and how.
We can't promise an AI tool will mention you; each one decides what it cites. We promise the work in your plan, and you see every task done.
How the monthly fee worksPartly. SEO aims to get your page into Google's results; GEO aims to get your business cited inside an AI answer. The foundations are shared, and Google says so for its AI features. GEO puts more weight on answering in the first lines, on your details matching everywhere and on checking what the AI tools actually say.
There's a fair amount of hot air about, mostly in the promises. What we do can be checked: the same questions before and after, the pages we changed, the listings we corrected and the visits that arrive from these tools. If something doesn't shift, the report shows that too.
It's a fixed monthly fee in your plan, set after the audit, as it depends on how many questions need tracking, your services and towns, and how much needs fixing. That covers the starting audit, the changes, weekly tracking and the monthly report, with no set-up fee and no minimum term. The first invoice comes once the set-up is live and you've checked it.
Your site and listings are updated during the set-up, on a date in your plan. How long each AI tool takes to notice is outside anyone's control, so any timescale we quoted would be invented. That's why we track weekly: you'll see when things start to move.
No, and be wary of anyone who says it will. Each tool decides who to name in every answer, and that changes with the day and the wording. What we stand behind is the work: the pages and details we put right, and the weekly tracking that shows what changed.
For Copilot, yes: Bing Webmaster Tools now has an AI Performance report. Google folds visits from its AI features into your normal search traffic, and ChatGPT and Perplexity don't report anything. So we ask the same questions every week and tell you how often you appear, who cites you and in what tone.
Not for Google, which says no AI text files or special mark-up are needed for its AI features. Other tools haven't confirmed they read it. We add one because it's quick, but we don't present it as the answer.
Yes, and it's your decision. OpenAI separates GPTBot, which reads to train its models, from OAI-SearchBot, which reads to answer searches; Perplexity does the same. You can shut out the training bots and keep the search ones. Shut out the search bots and you can't appear in their answers.
AI search optimisation (you'll also see generative engine optimisation, GEO, AI SEO or AEO) is the work that helps ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews find a business, understand it and cite it accurately. We record what they say about you now, sort out your site and your details elsewhere, and put the same questions to them every week.
Google started showing AI Overviews in UK search results in August 2024 (9to5Google), and for many questions the summary is now the first thing people read. Being one of the sources it links to is part of being found.
Some of the people who hear of you this way never visit your site: they read the answer, then search your name or ring. Most of what helps here helps your ordinary SEO too. The free audit includes what AI tools say about your business today.
For local questions (“a good family solicitor in Norwich”), AI tools lean heavily on map listings and directories, so the basics of local SEO come first: the same name, address, postcode and phone on your site, your Business Profile, Bing Places (Copilot draws on Bing), Yell and the directories your trade uses.
We also check that your site lets in the crawlers of the AI search tools you want to appear in (OpenAI's list of its crawlers), and that each page says what you do, where and for whom in its first lines, in British English, as your customers write.
Generative engine optimisation (GEO), answer engine optimisation (AEO), AI SEO and LLM SEO all describe the same job: preparing your business so the systems that write answers (ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode) can find, understand and cite you. There's no secret switch.
The difference from SEO services is what the searcher gets. On Google they see a list of links and pick one; in an AI answer they get a written reply that mentions a few sources, or none. So it matters more that each page answers in its first lines, that your details match off your site and that other sites talk about you. The foundation doesn't change: if your site has no page for a service, no AI tool has anything to pull from.
We start with the questions people ask before they ring an accountant: “accountant for self assessment in Norwich”, “how much does a sole trader pay for an accountant”, “accountant near me who does Making Tax Digital”. Between 50 and 100 of them, depending on what you offer and how many towns you cover.
We put them to ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Perplexity, and keep every answer.
Which firms each answer mentions, in what order, and in how many of them you appear.
share of voice
The sources each answer links to: your site, a competitor, Yell, a trade body or a local paper.

accuracy and tone
Google is explicit about its side: there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no special file or schema to add; a page just has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet (AI features and your website). Google also says these features may run several related searches to build one answer, which rewards pages that cover a topic's follow-up questions.
ChatGPT searches with OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot, and OpenAI says sites that block it won't be shown in ChatGPT search answers (its crawler docs). Perplexity uses PerplexityBot to surface and link sites in its results (its docs). Copilot runs on Bing, so your site needs to be in Bing too.
What's known to help: a site search engines can find and OpenAI's search crawler can reach, pages that say plainly what you do, where and for whom, and other sites (reviews, directories, local press) that back it up. What isn't known is the exact weight of each piece, because nobody has published it.
For local questions (“photographer near me who does elopements”), answers lean heavily on Google Business Profiles and their reviews, so local SEO matters as much as your site. We walk through it step by step in how to get your business on ChatGPT.
Google counts visits from AI Overviews and AI Mode inside the Search Console Performance report, mixed in with the rest of your web search traffic. Since February 2026, Bing shows how often Copilot cites your site in its AI Performance report. ChatGPT and Perplexity don't offer any report.
That's why we track the same questions every week: it shows whether you come up more, get cited more and whether what's said about you has changed. Answers vary by day and by who's asking, so we show you the trend, not a single snapshot. Visits from chatgpt.com or perplexity.ai are counted in your analytics.
A serious AI SEO agency does things you can check: questions saved before and after, pages rewritten, details fixed on other sites and AI referrals measured in your analytics. What it shouldn't sell you is a magic file, a list of tricks or a promise that ChatGPT will recommend you.
If your site has technical problems that stop Google from reading it, an SEO audit comes before any work for AI. And if you don't have a page for each service yet, we start with your website.
It's a fixed monthly fee set in your plan after the audit, because it depends on your firm: how many questions need tracking, how many services and towns you cover, and how much needs putting right on your site and elsewhere. That covers the set-up (the starting audit and those fixes) and then each month: new questions answered on your site, listings and mentions kept current, weekly tracking and the report. No set-up fee and no minimum term; 30 days' notice to stop.
The first invoice comes once the set-up is live and you've checked it. If we also look after your SEO, the audit shows what the two share and your plan sets it out. How each plan is priced is on our pricing page.
Your customers' questions run in ChatGPT, Google and Perplexity, with every answer saved: who comes up, who gets cited and what's said about you and your competitors.
