A Chrome window builds a law firm's website from the first lines to the finished page; then it shows on a phone and a client's message arrives. Firm and message are examples.

The web design services we offer

Your proposal only includes what your business actually needs.
See all services
  • Ecommerce websites

An online shop built to sell on a phone, with product pages that answer the questions that stop people buying.

  • Landing pages

A page built for one campaign, that says what the ad promised and asks for one thing: the call, the message or the form.

  • Website redesign

Your old website rebuilt to bring in work, keeping your domain and everything Google already knows about you.

  • Website speed

Your website loading fast on a phone, measured before and after with Google's own tool, without rebuilding it.

  • Website maintenance

Updates tested before they go live, backups stored away from your server and someone watching your site, every month.

You've got a website, but it doesn't bring you work

If your site does any of these, it's sending people to your competitors.
  • It looks fine on the office computer and crawls on a phone.
  • It talks about passion and quality but never says what you do, where, or how to get in touch.
  • Changing your phone number means emailing the person who built it in 2017.
  • Nobody has ever said “I found you through your website”.

What a website built to win work looks like

How we get there

We start from how your customers search. Each service people look for separately gets its own page, with what's included, who it's for and the questions you're always asked. Every page has one job: getting the visitor to ring, message or fill in a form.

It's built to load fast on a phone and to be read properly by Google from day one, so it's ready for SEO, and accessible: readable contrast, labelled form fields and buttons that work with a keyboard, following the WCAG guidelines. Domain, logins, copy and photos are in your name.

  • Fast on a phone

Most of your visitors arrive on a phone. The site loads right away even on a weak signal.

Core Web Vitals in the green

  • One page per service

Customers searching for something specific land on the page about exactly that, instead of a generic home page.

  • Contact always at hand

Call, text and form buttons visible on every screen, and every enquiry tracked.

    conversion tracking

How a website gets built with us

Four stages, and every task is visible on your tracking page.
  1. Searches and structure

How customers search for you and which pages your site needs to answer them.

  2. Plan and fixed quote

The page map, the copy we'll write, the fixed price and the delivery date, before you decide anything.

  3. Design and build

We ask you, in one message, for what only you know, write the pages and build the site. You see the home page and one service page in week 2.

  4. Launch, check and pay

We launch, redirect old addresses if there's a previous site and track every enquiry. You check it all, then you pay.

We test your current website on a phone, away from Wi-Fi

We open your site on a phone away from Wi-Fi and send you screenshots: how long it takes, what a visitor sees first and how many taps it takes to ring you. Plus what's worth keeping, so nothing that works gets lost.

When a new website is worth it, and when it can wait

Worth it if

  • You need a site that brings customers, and looking good is only part of that.
  • You want a fixed price, a signed date and the site in your name.
  • You can tell us how you work and what customers ask.

Not a fit if

  • You need a custom app or a platform with user accounts.
  • You need the site live within a week.
  • You want a cheap template with no strategy behind it.

Not a penny until your website is live

First a free look at your business. Then a fixed price and a signed date, and you pay once everything in your proposal is published and you've gone through it.

  • Fixed priceit doesn't grow with extra hours
  • Signed dateusually about 6 weeks
  • Yours outrightdomain, site and logins in your name

We don't guarantee Google rankings: nobody outside Google controls them. We guarantee the work.

Questions about our web design

What UK owners ask before commissioning a website. Yours can go in the audit form.

How much does a small business website cost with you?

That depends on the project: a five-page site costs less than one with an online shop, several areas with their own pages or bookings. You get a fixed quote before we start and pay in one go once it's live. The domain and logins are always in your name.

How long does it take to build a business website?

Usually about 6 weeks from the day you accept the proposal, and the date is signed in it. The clock pauses if we're waiting on copy, photos or your sign-off, and we tell you when it pauses and restarts.

Why WordPress rather than Wix or Squarespace?

Because you can edit it yourself, any developer can take it over and it doesn't tie you to one company's monthly plan. A builder can suit a very small site you'll run alone; for a site meant to bring enquiries and rank on Google, WordPress gives more room.

Do I pay anything before the website is finished?

No. Nothing up front and nothing in stages: you pay once everything in your proposal is published and you've checked it. If something in the proposal is missing or doesn't work, we fix it first.

Will I be able to update the website myself?

Yes. You get a short guide to change hours, prices, photos and text without asking anyone. For bigger changes you can come back to us or use any WordPress developer.

Do you write the website copy?

Yes. We write every page from what you tell us, in your customers' words, and you approve each one. You only send what only you know: how you work, the jobs you want more of and photos of your work.

We design and build bespoke WordPress websites for UK small businesses: fast on a phone, clear about what you do within seconds, with a page for each service customers search for. A fixed quote after a free audit, one payment once it's live, with a signed date and a site that's entirely yours.

More detail: Web design

Your current website is costing you enquiries today

A slow or unclear site hands the people who find you to rivals whose site answers quicker. Every visitor who leaves without ringing is a customer you'd already done the work to reach.

A new site usually takes about 6 weeks, with the date signed in your proposal. In the free audit we show you what your current site does on a phone and what we'd keep.

What a UK business website has to show, and what it should

If you trade as a limited company, your website must show the company's registered name, number and registered office, and where it's registered (GOV.UK); we put them in the footer and the contact page. Analytics and marketing cookies need consent before they load, under the ICO's rules on cookies, and a privacy notice has to say what the contact form collects. We build all three in.

Accessibility isn't only good manners: the Equality Act 2010 expects businesses serving the public to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, including online (GOV.UK guidance). Readable text, labelled fields and keyboard-friendly buttons cost little when they're planned from the start.

A bespoke website or a website builder?

Website builders like Wix or Squarespace can be fine for getting started. They fall short when you need a page for each service and area, real speed on a phone or full control over how Google reads the site. A custom WordPress site takes more work at the start and is built around how your customers search.

WordPress is what we use for small business sites because you can edit it yourself and any developer can take it over later. For online shops it depends on the catalogue, and we explain it in ecommerce website design; if you need a page for a campaign, see landing page design.

How to choose a web design company in the UK

Ask for a fixed price and a signed delivery date, check that the domain and logins will be in your name and ask how the site will show up on Google as well as how it will look. A good-looking site that nobody finds doesn't bring customers.

We work with small businesses across the UK, with a published starting price, a signed date and the pay-when-it's-done guarantee: nothing until everything in your proposal is finished and live. If you already have a site that brings some visits, see website redesign first.

What a small business website costs with us

It depends on what the site has to do: how many pages, whether there's an online shop or bookings, how many service areas. You get a fixed quote from the audit, before anything starts, and pay in a single payment once it's live and you've checked it.

To compare quotes from UK agencies and freelancers, read how much a website costs in the UK, which sets out the usual price bands. How we put a quote together is on how we price.
